Remembering Hyman B. Polakoff

Home /

With deepest regret, we announce the recent passing of Hyman B. Polakoff, former partner and co-founder of Brock, Schechter, and Polakoff, LLF on February 11th, 2023. We send our condolences to Hyman’s wife, Rona Polakoff, his son Warren (Tracy), his daughter Bonnie and his three grandchildren Ryan, Nathan, and Cole.

In 1972, Hyman merged his private practice with two other local practices, establishing Brock, Schechter, and Polakoff, LLP where he remained a partner until his retirement in 2005. “Hy” was what friends and colleagues described as a “true gentleman” that humbly assisted anyone in need. His calming force made him a trusted leader, mentor, and partner to many throughout his tenure at the firm and in life.

When discussing BS&P’s 50th Anniversary this past fall, with Managing Partner, Ray Crane, Hy described his greatest satisfaction over the years as “Seeing the people in the firm develop. Develop their confidence, develop strong relationships with clients, and then watching those people grow with the firm.” This is a true testament to the caring man that Hy was and the deep impact that he had on those whom he worked with.

Outside of his passion for work, Polakoff was also known for his philanthropic work and for being an instrumental force in the Buffalo Jewish Community. He served as past president of the Temple Beth Zion, and on the board of Weinberg Campus both in Buffalo New York. After retiring to Florida, he served on the board of Aviva Senior Living – Sarasota and Nate’s Animal Honor Rescue.

Hyman will be greatly missed, but his legacy and work will forever be an inspiration here at BS&P.
