Required NYS Sexual Harassment Training Updates

Required NYS Sexual Harassment Training UpdatesNew York State recently passed legislation scheduled to go into effect October 9, 2018, designed to prevent sexual harassment as a response to the widespread allegations of sexual harassment in the workplace.

The new legislation requires employers to conduct mandatory annual sexual harassment training for all employees and implement a written sexual-harassment prevention policy and distribute to employees.

The New York State Department of Labor has developed a draft model sexual harassment policy and model training guidelines.  According to the training model, employers should have all employees complete sexual harassment prevention training before January 1, 2019 and then annual thereafter.  Training must be interactive and include specific criteria relating to sexual harassment and federal, state and local harassment laws.  According to the draft policy model, employers should have a written policy adopted by October 9, 2018.

In order to help employers become compliant with the new laws, our firm is offering customized interactive sexual harassment training performed by a professional who has experience in this area.  This training will be provided to your organization at a set fee of $600 per session which includes the assistance in creating a written prevention policy.

Please contact Caroline Organ, Director of Human Resources at cmo@bspcpa.com or 716-854-5034 to schedule a training session or for more information on the new sexual harassment legislation.
